Since 1994, BayREN’s partner, Rising Sun Center for Opportunity (Rising Sun), has worked at the intersection of economic equity and climate resilience.

The changing climate and the current pandemic are increasingly highlighting the cost of energy in homes. According to a recent study by Sense Home Energy Monitor, California homes’ electrical usage has increased by 9.3%, resulting in a rise in annual utility bill spending by approximately $161 in 2020.

Since its inception in 2013, BayREN has fought climate change by implementing energy efficiency programs in the Bay Area, avoiding 126 million tons of carbon emissions in the process.

AltCar started in Santa Monica in 2005 at a time when alternative fuel vehicles seemed like a fading dream. This was a time when bigger was better. Big SUVs were making big money for automakers and you could get a $6,000 IRS tax rebate for purchasing one.

On January 16, 2019, BayREN's Bay Area Multifamily Building Enhancements Program (BAMBE) was recognized by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) with a prestigious Exemplary Program Award.
