What are the benefits of working with the BayREN Business program?

  • Lucrative Incentives - The BayREN Business program offers high incentives for energy efficiency projects that deliver real kWh and therm savings. Because incentive payments are based on actual energy savings, you can earn much more than from traditional rebate programs.

How long does it take for the BayREN Business program to contact me once I have submitted an Interest Form?

The BayREN Building Performance Advisor (BPA) will contact you within 2 business days after you submit the interest form. The BPA will provide you with basic information about how the program works. Afterwards, the BPA will connect you with the Aggregator Manager at our partner Alternative Energy Systems Consulting, Inc. (AESC) to provide you with the necessary forms and will walk you through the enrollment process.

Can I recruit customers now?

No, BayREN Business will not honor any project incentive submission for projects installed before you have completed an onboarding training, the BayREN Business Participating Aggregator Agreement has been signed and all required documents have been submitted.

What is the process so I can start recruiting customers in BayREN Business?

  • Submit the Contractor Interest Form.
  • The BayREN Building Performance Advisor will reach out to you to discuss the program with you and then connect you with the Aggregator Manager at our partner AESC.
  • The Aggregator Manager will go over next steps, including completing an onboarding orientation, signing a Participating Aggregator Agreement (PAA), and submitting insurance documents.
  • The Aggregator Manager at AESC reviews the submitted PAA to confirm it is signed and accurate and verifies that all required documentation is included.
  • AESC and BayREN countersign the PAA.
  • Aggregator is granted access to their SharePoint folder and the Aggregator portal which enables them to submit projects and access tools and resources.
  • (Optional) Aggregator’s information is added to the BayREN Business website.
  • Enrollment is complete
     

What are the licensing and insurance requirements to participate in BayREN Business?

  • The energy efficiency measure improvement or installation must be completed by person(s) who hold the appropriate license and current license(s) with the California Contractors State License Board for the work performed. In addition, there are additional requirements for Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Advanced Lighting Controls projects.
  • Aggregator must maintain in force, adequate worker’s compensation, commercial general liability, and commercial automobile liability as required under Exhibit A of the PAA.
     

What is the contractual arrangement in the BayREN Business Program?

The BayREN Business Program is a separate, third-party offering intended only to provide qualifying financial incentives directly to the Aggregator (contractor) for eligible energy-efficient savings.

The Participating Aggregator Agreement is made by and between Alternative Energy Systems Consulting, Inc. (AESC) and the Aggregator.

AESC is the Implementer that implements the BayREN Business Program on behalf of the City and County of San Francisco Environment Department, and is responsible for Aggregator enrollment and management, project submittal support, incentive calculations, hosting web-based program tools, and energy savings measurement and verification.

Aggregators are responsible for holding the contract with any customer for the work to be completed at that business.

The BayREN Business program does not endorse, warrant, or guarantee the quality, performance, or conduct of any Aggregator, nor does it accept any liability or responsibility for:

  • Cost overruns;
  • Delays;
  • Workmanship issues;
  • Contract disputes;
  • Breach of contract; or
  • Any other damages or grievances arising from the Aggregator-customer relationship.
