A Commitment to an All-Electric Future: Apply for BayREN’s New Decarbonization Showcase

Public building in the Bay Area

Public buildings are more than just infrastructure – they are symbols of opportunity and progress. Across the Bay Area, local governments are stepping up to set a new standard for sustainability by decarbonizing their public buildings. To support this movement, BayREN’s new Decarbonization Showcase service is helping local governments and special districts take steps towards sustainable and all-electric infrastructure.

“This program provides Bay Area jurisdictions with opportunities to better understand their building portfolio projects and get recognized as leaders in the building decarbonization field” shares Jane Elias, Portfolio Administrator for BayREN.

BayREN’s Decarbonization Showcase aims to enroll up to 10 public buildings to demonstrate and test various decarbonization strategies that can serve as models for others. Participating agencies will receive technical and financial support, with priority given to projects in equity-priority communities. Once projects are completed, their real-world insights will be shared through case studies, peer network calls and webinars, providing valuable guidance on implementation strategies, opportunities and barriers.

Selected participants will benefit from three core offerings:

  • Professional Engineering Assessments – Free energy assessments that will be used to develop customized recommendations for building upgrades, estimated savings, a project work plan and budget.
  • Funding & Financing Assistance – Guidance on securing funding and financing options to enhance project cost-effectiveness. Supplemental funding from BayREN is also available to help align project financials with expectations.
  • Ongoing Technical & Engineering Support – Technical assistance and engineering support will be provided throughout the project, from planning to completion, to help simply the process.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make progress towards your local and state climate goals and create long-term energy savings for your community. Apply before March 18, 2025!
